Medical Marijuana prohibition is a crime against humanity and a violation of the religious precept – heal the sick.

–M. Simon @ Classical Values.

Any prohibition is an affront to liberty and as such is — in this country at least — unlawful. The government has no legitimate interest in defining and controlling contraband and needs to have its hand slapped (at least) whenever it tries. Long time past for this to be brought to heel.

Punctuation Error! The period belongs immediately after the word “interest.”

Government in a constitutional republic has no “interests.” It is an agent, with contracted duties to perform and some range of legitimized means with which to perform them. It is not a principal, with rights, interests, priorities, privileges, or immunities. That recognition, all by itself, could cure what’s wrong with the United States of America.

Good point. I should perhaps amend that: There is no such thing as a compelling public interest which overrides the rights and liberty of the individual. Period.
